Stay on the road, keep off the Moors…

Whenever I’m heading out for a hike, my dad says the same thing…
Stay on the road, keep off the Moors.
And for those unfamiliar, it’s a reference to the film American Werewolf in London.
Thankfully, we managed to avoid any encounters with werewolves when I went on a hike in the Malvern Hills this weekend, though.

But we did have a bit of a conundrum to solve.
Halfway through the hike, we reached a fork in the path – one way was the scenic route, the other was much more direct.
Now, naturally the longer route is better for getting the steps in and enjoying some great views… while the other way was shorter.
Naturally, we chose the short route because we had to get back for the football.
But there are always choices to make, and it made me think about the difference between short-form and long-form content.
Shorter content is easily accessible, great to establish and audience and take a lot less time to film…
While long-form content is great at providing value, gets your message across in a more thorough way, and allows you to go in-depth into topics that interest your audience.
There’s a time and place for both and it all depends on what your goals are.
If you’re short on time because you’ve got an upcoming event… then short-form content is your route to success.
While if you’re planning a longer-term strategy, you’ve got the time to be able to mix things up.
Speak soon,
